Congratulations to all our new master students 2015!

This week the admission results for autumn 2015 Master’s studies  at Lund University were announced.

There was an increase in both the number of applicants and the number of students admitted to Master’s programmes for entry in autumn 2015 as compared to the admissions cycle for entry in autumn 2014.

Preliminary figures indicate that the total number of applicants in this year’s application round was 15 316, which constitutes an increase of 613 students on last year. Of these applicants approximately 65% put Lund University as their first choice, which can be compared to last year’s 58%.

The number of students admitted for autumn 2015 studies was 2 978, which constitutes an increase of about 211 students compared to last year’s application round. About 1/3 of the admitted students are required to pay tuition fees.

The top ten countries of origin for admitted Master’s students remain the same as last year (Sweden, Germany, United Kingdom, China, USA, the Netherlands, India and Turkey, Denmark and Ukraine).

Unfortunately there has been a noticeable decrease in applications from many African countries and from Bangladesh. This is believed to be a consequence of the absence of government-sponsored Swedish Institute scholarships in 2015. Students from many of these countries are dependent on these scholarships to cover not only tuition fees but also travel expenses and living costs. Next year, when the SI scholarships are reinstated, an increased number of applications are expected from these regions. This shows how important the scholarships are for the diversity at the university and we are very grateful that our funds and donors contribute to more scholarships!

Happy Easter Holidays!
