May: month of strategic network meetings

May is a busy month for all of us. I attended two important network meetings.

This year’s Universitas 21 (U21) annual Presidents’ meeting and general meeting took place in Santiago de Chile and the week after I attended LERU Rectors´ Assembly in Geneva.

Universitas21, Annual General Meeting

Together with our University Director Susanne Kristensson, Sebastian Persson from the Student Union and Ulrika Qvist Mathiesen, U21 liason officer, I attended the U21 meeting at Pontificia Universidad de Chile (PUC). It was very well organized by the hosting University with many interesting meetings for presidents, managers and student leaders. It was very rewarding for me to participate for the first time in both my capacities, as Executive Director for U21 and as deputy vice-chancellor for Lund University.

Universitas 21 is going through a revision with a strong academic focus and an eye for the grand challenges. I believe that researchers, teachers and students will benefit from LU´s engagement in U21.

LERU Rectors´ Assembly

The Rectors of the 21 LERU Universities met at the Université de Genève in Switzerland on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May.

At the meeting LERU reinforced its international positioning by setting up a close cooperation with the United Nations.  With this initiative, LERU stresses the global nature of research, innovation and education, and the importance for LERU to be at the forefront of these global developments.
